Grandma's House....

Well, like everyone else, I have caught the Pinterest bug.  I love looking through it and finding new and different things to try my hand at.  The latest craft item that I have tackled is this sign that I made for my mother's birthday.  I have one little girl and my brother has a little boy.  My daughter and my nephew are the best of friends when they are together.  Even though one is 6 and one is 7 and live 5 hours a part, you would not know it when they get together.  They love each other so much.  It warms my heart to see my daughter have this special relationship.  So, it is true, when you go to Grandma's, cousins become best friends.  I took artistic liberty with the saying and changed it slightly from the original version.  You see the original version here.

For my version, I started with a wooden plaque from WalMart, three different shades of acrylic paint (black, cream, and reddish color).  I cut all of the letters and flourishes with my Cricut (using SCAL).  I used a free svg file for the flourishes that I found on the Internet.  I am going to try to find it again and link it here. I painted the board black, then cream over it and rubbed in some of the red color for accent.  I used Mod Podge to glue down the letters, and then I used three coats on top.  I love how it came out.  I also have a black ribbon waiting to attach to it to use as a hanger.

If you would like the cut file, you can leave me a comment and I can email it to you.

Thanks for looking!

Another project finished!

Ok, so I might not be the fastest crafter out there, but I do finish things that I start.  So, my husband spent the week before New Year's building a baby doll bed for our daughter's American Girl doll (because I refuse to spend mucho $$ on the AG brand) and he did a wonderful job building and painting it.  You will just have to excuse the large stuffed animal and shoes in the background.  What can I say, we are a real family and my house isn't always picture perfect! :)

I then proceeded to find some fabric that I used in my daughter's curtains and made a mattress for the bed.

Last but not least I finally made the baby doll quilt last night (very late last night), but none the less, last Friday.  I had a small charm pack from Hobby Lobby and I cut them in half (so 2 1/2 inch squares and made a simple patch quilt.  I then sashed it with some left over fabrics I had used on my mother in law's quilt, and I had a 1/4 of the backing fabric, which I had to piece together on the back to finish the backing.  I did an all over free motion quilt design to quilt it.  I used scraps for the binding, which was the first time I have done that and I think I like it.  It's hard to tell in the photos, but the little quilt is pink and browns.

All in all, I would say the project was a success since my daughter loved it!  I gave it to her as an early Valentine's Day gift!  I hope you all have a wonderful Valentine's Day as well.  (Note:  The plans for the bed and mattress were from Ana White's website.  She has wonderful designs on there.  Ana White)

Bee Ballerz, wanna be a baller, shot caller....

Well, with the beginning of the year, basketball started up for my daughter.  She is doing much better this year at the sport and understanding how the game is played, etc.  So, in honor of their first game, I embroidered each of them a towel with their name on it and a big bee.  Now, to explain, the name of their team is the "Bee" Ballerz.  Cute, huh.  Wish I could take credit for that name, but alas I can not.  That was a stroke of genius on the behalf of their Coach Mandy.  They have the cutest yellow and black striped socks and another sock with bees on them.  They are so cute!  The towels were a hit with the coaches and the players and it got the season started on an upbeat mood!

I purchased the bee embroidery file from Embroidery Library.  They have the BEST embroidery designs with the BEST prices.  Isn't he a happy little bee?

I am also linking up to Crazy Mom Quilts, Finish it Friday.

Have a great weekend!
